Have you ever thought about the fact that you need something to refer to in difficult times? Have you ever considered why you are right the person you are? If an answer to either of these questions is 'Yes' you probably were thinking about the religious aspect of our existence at some point of your life. Do we really need it or is it only a part of our tradition?
The other day I happened to talk to a priest who was somehow overwhelmed by the fact that nowadays people do not notice the way in which God is involved in their lives. What is more he claimed that we have lost the perfect morality and it seems extremely difficult to find it once again. At first I agreed with him, but then I started to think about this rather crucial aspect of our social and individual existence.
I am inclined to believe that people, although they seem to be quite sceptical and do things that are far from good religious orders, need a feeling of being supported by Someone who is more powerful, more trustworthy and forgivable. The excellent proof of this we were able to watch at the beginning of April 2005 when our beloved Polish Pope died. At that time a lot of people - not only those who are Catholics but also those who do not believe in church gathered together, prayed and commemorated this great person.
Taking everything into account I think that still there is a need, somewhere deep in our souls, to be tied by different bonds with a kind of spirit, which we can rely on. I believe that this fact brings us hope when we are fed up with all difficulties and help to feel totally secure.
